Color for kitchen?

I am moving in with my bf's into the condo/apartment he owns. He never did anything to the apt since buying it from a failed flipper 7 years ago and it is definitely of the "bachelor practical" design theory. Together we are making a ton of well needed updates and changes.
So first comes painting: we are thinking of a grayish bluish beach/Spa ish color palette for the apartment. We are planning on painting all trim white and putting in crown molding.
Kitchen: what color looks good with these light cabinets and granite? He really doesn't want to paint them. I think we may do a backsplash later (maybe a couple of years), but until then, we need to pick a color.
(I can add more pics of the granite and kitchen tomorrow definitely getting rid of the rug, light fixture and table).

9 years agoThese are from the apartment before he moved in, so his furniture is different, but not much more stylish. Even though the kitchen doesn't look that bad, look at the apt as a whole and you can see why I want to make a bunch of changes.

9 years agowe painted our kitchen (with light oak cabinets) a medium-dark grey colour. Looked great with the cabinets. Find a grey that will work with the blue tones your putting in the rest of the house and that may work! We were planning on updating our counters so something lighter though, but it looks like you have lots of light in that kitchen.
Here is the link that inspired me to go grey - it made the oak cabinets look updated (as my husband was NOT okay with painting them white :) )

9 years agoI'm also very open to suggestions for the whole apartment. I don't want every room to have the same color, but would like it to be in a similar sensibility. Also, the living room needs to work with the couch in the attached picture ( it's my old couch, which will be replaced eventually, but we need to make changes as we see how we use the apartment, but I want it to look ok in the meantime).

9 years agosorry i didn't reply sooner, our kitchen does not feel small with the dark grey, however we have an open concept home. we went with light grey in the remainder of the open concept part of the house, and it too flowed nicely. I think a lighter grey may work better in your space as it looks more closed off than ours did. Here is a picture
