Candace M P Smith Architect
Architectural Design in Ruckersville.
“After interviewing several architects to design a home for us in Rockbridge Baths, VA, we chose Candace Smith. She totally fulfilled our expectations. She was an active listener as well as a creative collaborator. She was able to blend our ideas for a home with the skill and knowledge needed to develop building plans. The end result is a stunning as well as functional home overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We met frequently with Candace Smith on the building site and in her office to ensure that the house would meet our expectations which included placing the house in just the right location to maximize the views. Additionally, she joined us in interviewing prospective builders and worked with him throughout the construction process. In sum, Candace is a superb architect and it was wonderful to work with her and her staff.”
Patrick Farley Architect
Architectural Design in Ruckersville.
“There are many architects and builders but few who have the skill, experience, and vision to design and build a green house. Looking for a modern architect in the area, we found Patrick's website and we got to know him before we hired him. We liked him immediately and never "interviewed' anyone else. We never regretted it. He shared our desire to build lightly, letting the surroundings influence the design and materials. He artfully brokered the inevitable differences of opinion between husband and wife, and we enjoyed the consultative process of working out the design together as a small team.
After the design was complete, we were happy to have him build the house, too, which has worked out beautifully. On complicated custom houses, there are many situations where unforeseen circumstances or questions arise, and things move more quickly and smoothly when the person responsible for constructing the house is the same person as the person who envisioned it. The house is not yet complete, but we are currently on budget (more or less) and the product is a work of art. I have suffered through many residential and commercial building projects over a lifetime, and this is the first one I've enjoyed.
If you're looking for a person with the sophistication and experience to design and/or build a complicated "dream house," Patrick is your man. And if you're not sure, ask him to take you to our house and show you what he is capable of creating. I think you'll come away a believer!”
Hays + Ewing Design Studio
Architectural Design in Ruckersville.
“I'm currently working with Chris Hays on a new, energy efficient, modern farm house. From the beginning of the process Chris has listened to my goals and concerns, and creatively interpreted them into a beautiful and functional home. The space is light and open, and I feel so lucky to be able to soon live into such a special, unique home. In addition, Chris has been very considerate with budgetary concerns and worked with me and the builder along the way to keep to our budget, and in some instances creating additional savings (which I can't complain about!). Chris Hays and the Hays-Ewing team have just been wonderful to work with.”

Pillar & Perch: Architects + Builders
Architectural Design in Ruckersville.
“Working with Ben Robbins (and the entire team at Pillar & Perch) has truly been a wonderful experience. Throughout our project to design and build a new home for us, they have consistently been knowledgeable, professional, and are a pleasure to work with. After listening to what we wanted and looking at our lot, Ben’s first design was nearly spot on (we only tweaked a few very minor things). That was impressive! Then, throughout the build process, they have gone out of their way to please us and ensure that we’re happy. Ben is very responsive and keeps us informed as to what is going on, and has even found us some ways to save money without sacrificing from the architectural integrity of the project.
I highly recommend this company, and would use them again in a heartbeat.”
Outlaw Design Company
Architectural Design in Ruckersville.
“Ruth Ellen completed a whole-house renovation (2003) and a screen porch design (2012) for our family. She is insightful, practical, and thinks of things to incorporate into her designs that we never in a million years would have thought of. She's got inter-personal and listening skills that would make a professional mediator jealous--traits that come in handy when managing the expectations and goals of a builder, owner, and even spouses! Working with her has always been a pleasure, and ten years on we are proud to call her our friend as well as our architect.”
Wassenaar + Winkler
Architectural Design in Ruckersville.
“It truly was a pleasure working with Greg Winkler an architect with Wassenaar + Winkler. I was referred to their company from one of the top reputable builders in Nelson County for my Amherst project. My Amherst client's hired me on as their interior designer. It was a great day when I called Greg Winkler. He has such patience with great attention to detail along with a phenomenal work ethic. His professionalism my client's were also very impressed by. The collaboration between Greg and I along with the client's vision helped create the perfect plans. The end result was a huge success! Thank you again Wassenaar + Winkler for all your knowledge and expertise along with quality work. I highly recommend this architect company and look forward to working with them again.

blueply design
Architectural Design in Ruckersville.
“I hired Kendra Guiffre', owner of blueply design, as the architect for my vision of a modern minimalist house built out of the city on 8 acres of land in the country.
From the beginning I was impressed with Kendra's professionalism and commitment to the project. Her work ethic was beyond my expectations on every level of the process.
Kendra was a team player; always responding positively to any construction issues as the house was being built. There were many meetings in regards to problem solving throughout the entire project. She never failed to be prepared with creative ideas for solutions. She was readily available as well as for required meetings on site.
Kendra's creative approach and use of space was astounding and of course added so much to the finished project that added much enjoyment to the practicality of living in the house.
Without a doubt if I had another big project like the one she did for me, I would hire her to be on board as part of my team. She is exceptional in client relationships. A job well done with Kendra by my side!”

Tucker Architects, Inc.
Architectural Design in Ruckersville.
“We had Mr. Tucker design a ground floor master suite addition of about 800 sq. ft. to our about 1800 sq. ft. 2 story abode comprised of a large walk in closet, a commodious master bath, and a large bedroom with integral sitting area. The addition of a hall way to connect the addition to the balance of the house had the beneficial effect of adding a breakfast "nook" to our previously renovated kitchen and a third informal "owner's" entrance to the house. One of the important design goals was to preserve my wife's ability to observe and enjoy the park like back yard/garden and the birds therein from the kitchen and the bedroom. Another goal was that the addition not appear to be just a box stuck onto the side of the existing house. The main design criteria was to provide a ground floor living environment so we can maintain our independent living arrangement to the end. Bill's design hit he mark on all accounts and we are thoroughly satisfied with it and quite comfortable in it. The neighbors and drive bys have all been quite complementary, also.”
