“Paul of Ambo Architects was recommended to me by my builder who praised his detailed construction drawings and problem solving skills. He said architects often provided only outline plans with very little thought on how the design should be practically achieved and that Paul was very different. The builder was right. Paul proved to be a delight to deal with, a very good listener with an open collaborative approach to the early stages of design. He has a great understanding of regulations both planning and building and produced a final design to a very high standard that sailed through all regulatory processes. The drawings provided for construction were extensively detailed with nothing left to chance, when any issues did arise Paul was on hand to help resolve the problems.
The project was for a ground floor side return extension with a small first floor extension above. The realised design absolutely maximises both the available space and light in what is a small, and previously dark mid-Victorian house. The contemporary design, with modernist influence, is achieved in traditional materials and sits well with the rest of the victorian architecture. I would recommend Ambo to anyone.”

She made many very helpful suggestions as to structure and design which ultimately delivered a finished home which was even better than I had hoped for. She worked well with the builders and made sure that they fully understood what was required at every stage. She is very easy to talk to and work with. The design of the loft extension was greatly improved by her suggestion of having a vaulted ceiling in one of the bedrooms, and the skylight she designed in the rear extension is commented upon by many visitors to my home. I would happily recommend her to anyone looking for an architect for their home.”

“Dominic designed a beautiful kitchen extension for us which has made brilliant use of the space and which we continue to appreciate on a daily basis four years after the job was finished. He worked collaboratively with us on the design and provided very clear and detailed plans, as well as more artistic visuals so we could get a feel for how things would look. The latter really captured our imaginations and sustained us through the times when the back of the house was off in mid-winter! His artistic as well as architectural training meant that he really thought about the aesthetic details - and he respected our wishes in the few cases where we wanted to depart from his suggestions, including accommodating a table football. Dominic persuaded us to think about design options that wouldn't have occurred to us - like digging down to create more head room. This was expensive but we are glad we went for it. Dominic worked well with our own builders who commented on how well specified the tender documents were. We did have a problems with two sub-contractors sourced by Dominic but these were ultimately resolved.”

“From start to finish, hiring Helen as our architect and project manager was the best decision we made for our home renovation project. From the very beginning Helen was patient and took on board our many requests and ideas. She then transformed them into reality in a way we never would have imagined possible. Also, as interior design is not our area of expertise, she was very helpful in recommending fixtures, colours, and many other interior design elements.
Helen would visit the site at least once a week to ensure all was moving along smoothly. Her keen eye for detail and quality is amazing, as in the end she was able to pick out things we never would have noticed. She even went toe to toe with our builders instructing them to redo items that were not performed to her high standards. For this, we are forever grateful because as a result, we have a beautiful polished home.
When people ask for our number one tip for a home renovation project, we always give the same advice, "you need Helen".”
