Private house in Chestnut Hill, MA

MURAL: VIEW OF JERUSALEM The ceiling of the entrance hall provided a large open space, where the muralist was able to show a panoramic view of Jerusalem while using the exciting architectural features of the room to accentuate the historical elements of the mural. Following the wishes of the owner of this house, the mural depicts a view of old Jerusalem, with doves in the sky and Hebrew script on the ceiling above a window. The mural brought together important spiritual and historic aspects of the Holy City while adhering to its geographical accuracy. Along the connecting edges of the eight walls of the room and the octagonal ceiling, the wall of Jerusalem along with the eight gates were depicted in the precise order in which they stood. The historical landmarks and neighborhoods of the Old City were painted along the interior and exterior of the Jerusalem wall depending on their geographic locations. In order to provide a sense of serenity and create a more open space, a soft blue sky was painted around the white plaster medallion of the crystal chandelier. The muralist did notable research into the city, using material from personal journeys into Israel, and contacting photographers, historians and archaeologists.
