Sideward sky Khosla Associates conjures up visions of a boutique cafe in the romantic French countryside through this powder room. A modern twist on a vintage cheval mirror, this oversized turquoise-rimmed masterpiece holds its own in this summery space, and offers impetus to an otherwise basic layout.Tip: Have a lifesize frame fitted with a mirror to create a custom accent for your bathroom decor.

3. Colour me brightThis eclectic space, also designed by Khosla Associates, is an indoor version of sunshine and the skies. The room uses cheerful colours and a cleverly placed blue-rimmed mirror helps amplify the space. The bright-yellow sink base is fashioned as a low Parisian-inspired platform, complete with delicate arches and tapered legs. The ivory vessel sink and deck-mounted mixer tap make for excellent design inspiration.

Not on the wallYou don’t have to go by the book when it comes to mirrors. Standing a mirror in a corner instead of hanging it can be a good call. Just make sure you ‘rest’ the mirror securely in a place where there’s ample light and space. This bathroom is a unique space with a full length mirror against the wall. The freed-up grey wall over the vanity helps accentuate the yellow of the furniture piece and the blue of the mirror frame.

7. The eclectic washroomThe bright yellow vanity with a beautiful basin stands out in this bathroom by Khosla Associates. Against a soft grey wall, these colours offer a sublime contrast. The thin floating ceiling uses concealed lights and with the inclusion of a warm rug, this bathroom turns into an elegant space.

Tip: You can also use an oversized mirror in a tiny area to make it look doubly spacious. Take a look at this powder room, with the tall mirror that not only acts as a decorative feature but also a functional one by creating a perspective-boosting illusion.

5. …Or bring it downVery often, bathrooms have a standard mirror right above the vanity. Why not change this perspective and place one on the floor instead? You can simply repaint an old bedroom mirror’s frame, possibly in a contrasting hue (as shown). Keep it at a good distance from the basin and shower to prevent water marks. Khosla Associates use a full-length mirror here, which gives you a head-to-toe view and also creates the illusion of a bigger space. The yellow vanity gives the bathroom the feel of a dressing room. Give a fresh coat of paint to your old vanity to cut costs.
