Pooja Khanna Tyagi added this to Modular vs Carpenter-Made Kitchen: Which Is Right for Your Home?23 October 2019

Pros Expert professionals design the modular kitchen, customising it per the requirements of the homeowner. They ensure maximum functionality and optimum space management. During the design process, 3D views are generated as per the proposed design and colour selection so that the homeowner can visualise the overall design of the kitchen before fabrication.A modular kitchen imparts a sleek, high-end modern look to the home. If the homeowner plans to shift to a different location, the kitchen modules can be easily dismantled and reassembled at the new site. Modular kitchens come with a flawless factory-made finish. The edgebanding (where raw edges of the cabinet panels are finished with a thin strip of wood or PVC) gives a neat and seamless look as it does not form sharp edges or corners in the cabinetry. These kitchens have a transparent pricing. Once the design and finishes are finalised, the cost is calculated and fixed by the manufacturer. Since a modular kitchen is factory made, it ensures a fuss-free and neat installation at site.

ConsAs the name suggests, the wet kitchen is one of the moisture-laden areas of the home which may result in the growth of mould and mildew. The wet kitchen looks untidy and messy due to activities that include cooking and chopping vegetables, and the presence of dirty utensils which need to be washed periodically.Wet kitchens produce a lot of grime which tends to stick on the walls and kitchen cabinets. Hence, a wet kitchen requires a lot of effort for cleaning and maintenance. The wet kitchen is not air- conditioned.Take a look at more kitchens from around the world

9. Vary countertop heightWhile the standard kitchen countertop height is about 90 centimetres, there are many tasks that are more comfortably performed on a lower or higher surface. This is especially true for those who are taller or shorter than average. Typically you want your forearms to be at or near level when you’re working at the countertop. But for us tall folks, that’d require a surface height of 107 centimetres or more – a difficult height for kids or shorter members of the household to use. The solution is to set up areas with differing countertop heights to accommodate the various statures of the users and their tasks. Extra storage room in the cabinet underneath is an additional upside to taller work surfaces.Read more:A Kitchen Designer’s Top 10 Cabinet SolutionsTell us:What cabinetry features have made your kitchen easier and more comfortable to work in?
