Sometimes the existinhg cabinets just need a facelift. Outside the main kitchen area was a hall with a service area. It didn't need tearing out, but it certainly needed a refresh! Solution? Paint the cabinets a paller shade of grey and change the hardware, sink and faucet, and the countertop. Now it looks like the classic companion to the new kitchen without letting the remodeling "snowball" tear through every room in the house!
