Echo - Whole Home Renovation and Addition (Ottawa)

For this project, we were tasked with balancing the design integrity of a century old home while incorporating modern amenities and finishes. The client requested a welcoming kitchen where family could gather, but also a kitchen that would feel cozy for two to work in. The desire to have a “great room” while keeping with a classic kitchen design is exactly what was accomplished here. The grey face frame custom cabinetry is a perfect match to the beautiful quartz countertop and the custom made walnut table and shelves. The classic herringbone backsplash completes the design. Storage was a must with this kitchen and that is exactly what they got. Large pantries with pull out shelves balance out the built in fridge on the other end of the kitchen. Adding high transom windows allows ample natural light while maintaining privacy in the kitchen. Having the added table at the end of the island gives this family the perfect spot to spend time together while preparing meals. Structural challenges were no match for this design with two steel beams being incorporated into the coffered ceiling; you would never know that while standing at the island, just above your head were beams holding up the middle of the home. The ceiling detail adds a layer of sophistication to the space. Adjacent to the kitchen is a formal dining room and the great room, giving the entire area a great sense of flow. This will no doubt be the busiest yet most spectacular spot in the home!
