Pet’s Place: 2 Chicago-Area Cats Who Really Know How to Nap
A remodeler’s cats follow her around and find good places nearby for a snooze
Home design models: The cats frequently end up as models in Siebert’s home design photos for Vases & Vignettes, a renovation business she runs with her sister Brie.
“The girls are what make my house a home so I love including them in the photos,” Siebert says. “Plus, who doesn’t like a good cat picture?”
Payment method: Charlie loves catnip and Sulley is all about the belly rubs.
Break time: Siebert brings out the laser pointer and the cats chase it around the room. After all the fun, they get some cuddles before she turns back to work.

Favorite workday activity: While Siebert works, the cats mostly nap nearby.
Design considerations: “I probably should’ve chosen darker slipcovers for the furniture, but I love white, light fabrics, so I go through a lot of lint rollers,” Siebert says.

Holiday decorating: Right now, cats and pumpkins coexist, but in less than a month, Siebert will redecorate the entry and the rest of her home for the holidays with the cats in mind.
She sticks to faux poinsettias, because the real ones are mildly toxic to cats and dogs and Sulley eats everything. “Also, after Sulley’s first Christmas, I realized the ornaments need to be a little higher up on the tree this year.”

Home, sweet home: When Siebert gets home, she yells, “Girls!” and they both come running. Her sister also started doing this when she drops by so she can see them come running to greet her.
“I couldn’t imagine coming home and not having Charlie and Sulley greet me at the door,” Siebert says. “They are the best companions, always show me unconditional love and constantly make me smile and laugh. Seeing them when I get home is what I look forward to the most.”

Pets at a Glance
Pets: Charlie and Sulley, domestic shorthair cats
Ages: 7 and 2
Location: Naperville, a suburb of Chicago
Owner: Nikki Siebert, a part-time soccer coach and part-time home remodeler
Meet Charlie and Sulley: These girls live with Nikki Siebert, who adopted them from local humane societies when each was just a few months old. The oldest, Charlie, was initially shy, but she’s now loving, sweet and cuddly, Siebert says. Sulley is more of a social butterfly and always wants to be part of the activity around the house. They have their moments of being loving sisters, “but I think Charlie would prefer to be an only child,” Siebert says.
