Create an Irresistible Fitness Zone at Home
Here is how you can have all the incentive you need to get moving on your cardio machine or stretch out on your yoga mat
For me, surya namaskar and pranayama are a way of life. They compel me to look inwards and bring a sense of relaxation and calm to my day. With our busy lives, exercise is now an imperative for healthy living. So, what is holding you back? Are you among those who dislike going to common gyms and courts, or do you just not have enough time in the day for a trip like that? Don’t worry, here are some ideas how to create a delicious exercising zone within your home.
If there is an an indoor-outdoor space, then it just might be the perfect spot for your yoga or meditation routine. This space has been styled in white and finished with zafu cushions, wispy indoor plants and flowers floating in a stone basin.
In-between spaces are fantastic
If you don’t have an extra room, convert a corridor or your lobby into a stretching or pilates zone.
If it is a dreary or dark space, hang some colourful art on the walls. Mirrors, in any case, are great for smaller spaces. Roll out a carpet to make it look well styled. The positive vibes from the space will help you feel rejuvenated from your workout.
Before your exercise time, light aromatherapy candles and put on soft meditation music to ease your way into the workout.

Home gymnasiums can come in all shapes and sizes
Terrace:
Get rid of the extra clutter in your balcony or terrace and convert the space into a fitness zone. You could partially enclose it with panels of weather-resistant material like gypsum or glass. Some tall potted plants can be added as a visual barrier for privacy.

Outhouses, home extensions:
Make the most of a backyard or extra store room that would otherwise tend to become a dumping yard, and devote it to fitness. Here is an example where an outdoor area has been converted into an extension to make a gym. Glass panels frame the ceiling here and wood has been used in the accent wall.

Go all out:
Don’t hold back in making your home gym into a serious workout space – bring in good-quality gadgets. Go ahead and install a wall-mounted TV or invest in a good music system to entertain you as you exercise.
Tip: If you wish to keep it simple, then just bring in a cardio machine, a Swiss ball and some free weights. Double the sense of space in a small area with a floor-to-ceiling mirror on one wall.

Work with whatever you have
For some exercise freaks, there are just no excuses – no matter what, they will work out. If there is a space constraint, find a suitable open and quiet area that is relatively free of furniture. Lay down a carpet or mat or bring in your cardio machine and get going.

Build a pool
If you have the luxury of extra space outdoors (or indoors, like in this image), build a swimming pool. There is no better exercise than doing laps early morning or after hours. It’s a great place for the family to come together for a workout as well.

Everybody needs some private ‘me’ time, so how about choosing a not-so-used space at home for your yoga practice? A comfortable carpet and plenty of natural light through skylights or windows are all you need. Avoid spaces that are devoid of ventilation – open, airy spaces bring in a sense of wellness.
