The countertops are 'antiqued/honed black granite'. The antique process gives the black granite a softer, more gray appearance than polishing them. When black granite is polished it has more of a harsh black appearance and will also show streaks, water rings, etc. more easily.
Be sure to use 'Bullet proof' Sealer on the honed/antiqued black granite because otherwise they will show oil marks, etc. Not necessarily a bad thing, just be aware that the honed black granite will age and develop a 'patina'.

This a beautiful material called pietra cardosa in a honed and flamed finish.
