This is kind of what I envision - same roof ridge direction as what we have, but steeper pitch to allow for attic room. Same bedroom box projecting forward but with peaked roof rather than hipped. Maybe an eyebrow window too - positioned like these upper windows.

I imagine this to be the side/back view - perhaps a slightly lower roof pitch so that the peak is not so high?

I hadn't thought of bidirectional stairs at the entryway of the house. Perhaps we could have an entryway something like this?
