Floors
Herringbone parquet
Flooring can be fitted before or after new kitchen units. If before you’ll use up a bit more flooring but may have a better result I like the pale floorboards here
Lovely pale floorboards
Durable soft Lino for a play area
The original floor boards were lifted and flipped over, then white-oiled. The exposed brick wall was just painted because it was in good condition - no other treatment was needed.
There is a step down into the new extension so the extension is the same level as the patio. Slabs of Spanish stone form the steps with engineered wood floor on one side and parquet on the other side.
Engineered boards in wide planks
See my iPad notes for how to create this pale herringbone floor in engineered wood.
This bathroom has a cork floor
The oak herringbone floor has a colourless Matt varnish
Hallway floors attract a lot of dirt, so have a coir door mat sitting in a recess (brass edged?) Choose flecky or grainy floor that won’t show a layer of dirt in the hall.
Engineered oak can still be aged by a tumbling process A hammer was used to distress the new floor treads
Timber parquet is easier to fit in a space with awkward measurements and walls that aren’t parallel and square
A recessed area in the floor for coir matting to prevent dirt being traipsed in
The floorboards here are bleached and stained white.
The flooring looks like wood herringbone but is hard wearing luxury vinyl
Unglazed Victorian floor tiles
Cork is a good durable material for a kitchen floor
White painted floorboards
The floor can’t really be seen here, but it’s micro cement which is cheaper than polished concrete
Porcelain tiles that look like parquet are more hard wearing then a wooden floor Underfloor heating
The boards have been sanded and lightened with a soap treatment
Stairs and hall flooring has underfloor heating and the engineered oak boards have been distressed
Engineered oak laid herringbone style with underfloor heating
Sanded floorboards, white oiled
Paint everything white using modern paint if you need more light. As a minimum , paint the floor white.
Luxury vinyl tiles - practical - suitable for dogs
