Open Spaces in Yorba Linda
The challenge of this project was providing the clients with a kitchen suitably sized to accommodate the large parties, they frequently host, within the defined space. This was accomplished by foregoing a formal dining room and integrating the space into the kitchen.
The rear landscaping, panoramic city light and ocean views demanded opening up the rear wall and adding windows to expose these views. We installed, on the adjacent pantry wall, cabinet doors with antique mirrors to visually expand, balance, and correctly proportion the environment.
Introducing a buffet as a room divider, and the integrated banquet seating behind it, met the family’s needs for seating and gave them the outside views desired.
The client is best described as a passionate home chef. The kitchen was apportioned accordingly to facilitate this passion. The work/prep area was isolated from the cleanup section to control the traffic flow. The second island incorporated in the design helped, especially when catering is required.
The appliances were crucial as they had to function superbly and were carefully selected for performance, to add character and to visually enhance the room. All elements combined improved the client’s ability to enjoy life’s best times, entertaining family and friends.
