Painting tile in shower vs. replacing

I'm considering keeping 3" tiles in shower and surrounding tub while updating and refinishing everything else. I've seen some info. on "painting" tiles to update and avoid replacement, but generally not in a shower. Any ideas for keeping and updating tiles in showers?

There is a big difference in cost with both options. Photos of the tiles would be helpful.

Without a picture it is impossible for me to advise but I have refinished tile in shower using a professional. It does not correct issues-discoloration around drains from rust etc. rust will bleed through within a few months. Good luck.
