Isn't it?Since the height of the ceiling is just 8.5 ft don't you guys think it will make the room smaller. Fyi..rest of the furniture in the bedroom is white - wardrobe, bed , side tables Plz help!

Dear gy3( is that Gayatri !) Yes, everything is too messy and cluttered plus i am finding your spaces not so big. First, you need to sort out and arrange everything in a very clean and sophisticated manner. Second, use more of light and neutral colours as much as possible as it provides a very serene environment and makes rooms look bigger than they are. Use more of white and grey instead brown and black. That purple wall is also quite dull and boring. Third, replace your furniture if possible with more contemporary furniture's, when your furniture are clean and seamless they helps room look bigger. Fourth, Your ceiling is the worst part. Again go with crisp cut ceiling design if you want to do new or paint everything white if you want to retain it. Fifth, please don't use blue or any other colour lights. Hi Ardhendu, Double heights add a lot of light and volume to a space. However, a lot depends on the overall planning of the rooms around it and the resulting size of the slab cut out for the double height. If you are only left with a small shaft like space, it reflects poorly on the design. Also, the placement of the slab cut out is crucial in a living space considering movement, furniture placement, lighting and ventilation. Nadia, You need to provide some more snaps showing the entire room, including the location of the beam, its height & clear height of the slab etc. One idea could be to extend the width of the beam by just about 25 mm with gypsum board on either sides, at the bottom level, with a right angular vertical of 25 mm as well & provide LED lighting strip for indirect lighting...
