It's "collage." It would look better if the faceplates were dark or painted to match. There's a ton of things you could do, but what is your taste? Modern? Ethnc? Earthy? A huge starburst mirror with a gold frame. A series of art in yellow. 12" wide horizontal stripes in silver. Or diagonal stripes (got to be careful with that one). A huge script quote in French or Arabic in a shade of purple barely lighter than the wall. You should go through houzz articles nad photos to find ideas.

Perhaps a large round table might mean a rug is not at all necessary. It could be a metal tray table, or carved wood like Rebecca Mitchell Interiors illustrates. Ideas also to consider, using multiple tables can be found at http://www.houzz.com/multiple-coffee-tables. I also agree with comments above that some color is needed on the walls. You could then hang round mirrors, or an unusual curved shape like RMI shows above.
