I see the drawers are finished and not plywood on top like many of the custom cabnitry shops seem to want to use.

We used a great company called Woodland Cabinetry for this pretty kitchen.

But I wasn't sure about your comment about the plywood. In this kitchen, we put a 3/4" plywood subtop on top of the cabinets, and then we added a 3/4" countertop over it. (The countertop has a 1.5" high "L" shaped edge that covers the edge of the plywood.) In my experience, this is pretty much standard practice here in Southern California.

On the East coast, on the other hand, it's standard to use thicker countertops--often 1.25" thick--and to skip the plywood subtop. The overall cost is about the same (the thicker material is more expensive, but when you use the thinner material, the cost of the plywood and the labor for the L-shaped edge is more expensive).

If you prefer to go with the 1.25" countertop, you can google "1.25 thick counters" or "3 cm slab material" and you will find that there are companies here in San Diego that sell and fabricate the thicker material.

Hi Joniosteen,

I read your question again, and it looks like I misunderstood it. Our drawer boxes (the inside of the drawer) are always solid maple or birch, not plywood. Recently we also started offering walnut drawer boxes as well. There are also walnut accessories, such as built in cutlery organizers and knife blocks. There's nothing like sliding open the drawer in an all-white traditional kitchen and seeing rich walnut on the inside!

The compromise options are 1- Have the shelves slanted at an angle of 30 degrees. It shall increase the usable depth . It is quite possible without damaging the unit. 2- Most of the shoes will fit in 12 inches depth. May be size 10 and above will have space issues. One Follow-up question.. Is there any strength issue with 20mm Granite slab over 40mm Granite.. Are the 20mm granite slab prone to chipping or crack on normal usage.. Usage would be like, chopping vegetables, keeping hot vessels,.. The normal usage what happens in normal indian kitchen.. I just want to be sure that I decide based on experts judgement (like you), as people are just throwing their opinion based on their guess...

What do you recommend:- Quartz vs granite kitchen countertops?

I have used both with good results. The main difference between Quartz and Granite are 1) price, 2) colour range. Granite generally works out cheaper, because you can buy the exact quantity you require. Quartz comes in large slabs of specific sizes- standard size being roughly 10'-0" x 4'6", so there tends to be more wastage if you don't plan the cutting well. But Quartz is pretty and comes in a wide range of colours and can be re-buffed at a later date. Quartz also comes in various thicknesses- the most commonly used being .75" to about 1.25". And especially when you use dark wood cabinets in a kitchen or bathroom, beige and white counter tops work very well. Some people go even with coloured counter tops like blue, orange, yellow. Natural stone in light colours tend to be porous and stain easily, so I prefer to go with pure black which is safe.

I have no personal experience with these types of laminates. Got this information from brand website and share this based on brand reputation. Although I read this information one more time to be more clear about this and also I want to mention one more thing that they nowhere claims to kill corona virus. It claims that it kills more than 99% viruses which can be of any type. But there are a few misconceptions among us due to certain preconceived notions. For instance, when we hear the word "virus", our mind straightaway goes to corona virus. You might be right about your brand marketing thought, but if anyone have any experience these types of laminates, then we'll get real results about these types of claims.
