I too am thinking of using Indian-inspired decorations and colours. The house I have bought is boring and needs a funky touch! It needs some joy and a lack of seriousness!! To the furniture I already own I am adding a few op-shop buys which I can afford to paint without feeling I am destroying their integrity! I am also enjoying sourcing second-hand bits which I can spray-paint and decorate. I am going to add a few trims from shaped and cut-out plyboard to create false arches over some windows and doors. Also I have some gold/brass-coloured beading from a framing business to add a little glitz to odd mirrors I have picked up. I'm going through my stash of fabrics, collected over a life-time of sewing and hoarding! to create some throws and curtains that will hopefully give an authentic Indian flavour to the windows, beds and couches without costing me a fortune.

This one is a famous design by a group of professors at the Victoria University of Wellington, New Zealand to aid Autism. You will have to order a piece from New Zealand to be true to its purpose. Copying can be done by a skilled carpenter in India, no doubt, but would still be expensive and a fake. Developed within the Victoria University of Wellington, this cocoon-like seat is made from cold-bent plywood. Because rocking is one of the calming activities that is recommended for autistic folks, this special seat is a soothing and aesthetically pleasing addition to their homes.
