I think a comfortable distance between the island and the counter is around 42". It seems that you have only 30" between your cook top and the counter. I might be a little too tight. The wall between the entrance and the kitchen could be 4' long instead of 6', you would then be able to move the island a foot which would give you more room between the cook top and the island. Could you switch the location of the toilet and vanity in your dad's bathroom so your enter facing a vanity instead of a toilet which is a lot nicer.

have made 3 options of the layout. in all 3 options, the best position of the media unit is on the small wall. note - L shaped sofa is in Martin colour , hanging seating is in red colour and media unit is in blue colour. option 1- the hanging seating is kept near the window but the movement will be parallel to the window (i.e. from sofa to TV unit direction) option 2- the hanging seating is kept opposite the sofa wall between the living and dining area (as a divider and for more free space) option 3- the hanging seating is again on the window wall but the movement is perpendicular to the window wall. have attached some images for your reference. do get back to us in case of any further doubts. thanks and regards, deSigneR
