A narrow, long space like that can feel like a challenge, but if you figure out how you want to use the space before you start designing you will find a lot more success and fewer headaches. Here are some considerations before you start your plan: How much does privacy matter, and not just from neighbors but privacy from the indoors to the outdoors (considering you glass walls and ceilings you’ll need to think about how the space will work from both the inside and the outside). How do you plan to use the space? More specifically, do you plan to host lots of big parties or are you looking for a quiet place to enjoy your morning coffee? Or both? What is the material of your boundary wall? How can you use the wall to enhance the design and functionality of the space? Could you grow a vining plant up the wall for more greenery, or add narrow planters at the base of the wall for a vegetable garden? Do you want any type of covering for the space, like a pergola, roof, umbrella or other sun covering? Do you want it for the full space or just one area? What is your budget? Depending on your goals and timeline for the project, you might have to adjust the rest of the plan (if you don’t have the budget to make your dream space happen, consider taking the project on in phases and slowly save up to make the next phase happen). Hi Rasa, Nice to hear from you and I’m glad I was able to give you some inspiration for your kitchen tiles. I’ve included another image for you to look at that shows more of a farm house style kitchen with the coloured tiles. If you worried the coloured tiles might look too contemporary for your space, I would advise going for quite soft, muted colour tones to give you the same effect but in a more rustic style. You can see in the attached image how they have used a soft sheen, textured tile in neutral tones, with a subtle hint of colour to be in-keeping with that farmhouse feel. For your tile colours, you could pick up the off white tone of your cabinets with the grey in the granite, and a very soft hint of green or blue to add a little colour to achieve the same look for your kitchen. I have also added some paint swatches below you could use as reference for tile colours to help you visualise the combination. Keya, glad you decided to take the one reader's idea about moving the armoires in front of windows that you don't need and giving the bed a wall of its own! And, yes, you can have Roman shades on one wall and layered drapes on the other. When I had drapes made for my tall sitting room windows/doors, I had them use the same fabric for the Roman shades for the smaller windows on the other wall. For me personally, in these older Indian homes with all the odd nooks and niches in the walls, perhaps it would be more soothing to have a light/med tone paint on the walls that blends with the drapes/blinds for an 'uninterrupted' look, and I would use the same color on ceiling and beams. (but that is just my thought) I would start the process with a large carpet with your favorite colors, then choose your Bedcover & cushions, then your wall paint and fabric for drapes/blinds ..Not certain what style you like, but if you really like a particular Ethnic bedcover fabric, you can always have them stitched into curtains or Roman shades too.
