@magspag Thanx for the advice. We wanted to save some cost by not replacing the floor tiles, as well as save by retaining the upper cabinet in its current grey shade. Guess we will go for all-black for the cabinets: both below and above the counter; and put in a new counter-top that contrasts--maybe, a light coloured granite or slate. those lights will go off.....i have thought of 2 ideas as 1.in place of those lights there i will put some hanging light else....... 2.fan point will be shifted to those lights and in place of fan i ll put CHANDELIER( max size 24inch in diameter).... what do u suggest

I think this piece is quite lovely. It appears that your couch and chairs have dark wood so I would be tempted to stain or paint the buffet to match these items. Changing the large modern handles to smaller antique ones might help to make it less bulky looking and tie in with the other items in your room.. I like the idea of putting a mirror in the upper door, however much as I like the criss cross effect in the sample pictures, adding more detail may conflict with the curves in your sofa and chairs. You could look for a decorative detail that has more subtle style. As for placement, it might go on the short wall where you have a bench or even on the wall where you have your table with two chairs, one on each side to balance the look.

Hey Katy! How about using large white tiles with or without spacers? You can use transition strips in brass between the hardwood and the tile and tie in the brass finish to the sink faucet and lights. ( That is if you want to change the lights! I think you should) and instead of using warm lights, go for natural white. in the 4000 - 4500 Kelvin range. and perhaps a fixture that gives more light to your room!
