Wood Fire Heater

We are putting a freestanding woodfire heater in a new open plan living dining space. There will be a rough stone wall behind it. Considering placing the heater on a raised concrete bench to create a small space to sit and wood storage underneath. Any thoughts?

Concrete can be very messy to pour and install and get the right finish in a renovation. I would suggest you check out Glass-fibre Reinforced Concrete (GFRC) which is made and finished in a factory then installed. Check out Slab Culture as a potential supplier

Hi again- I'm an Aussie and the term 'wood burner' means a metal box with a glass door on the front and in the situation where you have a 'double sided wood burner' that means two glass doors on each end. A wood burning fireplace open either side between two rooms is a different thing. Sorry about the confusion. I looked into building one of those in brick and was strongly advised to place a glass panel on one side ( as Ironwood has pointed out) the natural draughts that move through your home will take the smoke with it. A piece of glass will prevent this from happening.

It looks like a loft. Can't really see room. Paint a soft gray. Hang panels on window go to the ceiling in a print. Try a contemporary look like black and white chevron. If you can't hide pipes just go with them. Paint them the same color of area. You have a view direct all furn to capture that. Big art in bold colors to being in color and interest. Ikea has great things. Think scale on furn. Will a TV go here? What are floors if wood or tile. Use a area rug in front of sofa area. Use glass top on tables to make room appear bigger. Low modern furn in light colors will work best. Paint all trim and doors white. Use brush nickel for hardware.

It looks like a small room to me. I cant suggest a placement plan with knowing the plan. But some tips I guess may work for the corner. 1 . Use no temple. 2, use Dias and Mirror 90' Degree on the walls. to reflect idol in the mirror. 3, Many small one medium size Idol is better than too large one or two many small ones. 4. Use glass temple . 5. Make hanging temple if cant change the corner. 5. Don't use anything over and under as storage.

Hello Chandni, Do you have a 3D view of the plan to use the wood. The suggestion on real wood material on external facade would depend on the likley placement. It's great you are thinking of the wood storage solution early on - so many people focus on the fireplace and forget that they will need somewhere to put their fuel.

From a safety perspective you could include some design features in your bench seat (a curve or slope) that makes it difficult to accidentally have combustible items like cushions come into contact with the fireplace. Although this may not be necessary depending on what type of fire place you are installing.
