I want to build a roof for the third floor and prefer a low dead weight roof yet provide no rain noise, no heat and can withstand high speed winds.

Hi Chandru,

You have not mentioned whether you are going to use the roof or not.

If you are going to use the roof as terrace, then I would suggest you go for R.C.C. slab that would ensure no noise, no rain and can withstand high winds.

Hi Chandru,

Namashkar,

Why dont you go for green roof or say slab with undulations which way you can cut direct light and heat along with that which can also have ventilation . water can be used as an element may be in the form of water tank to cool the roof or say roof garden.

Hi Anuragini, You can cover the gap with antique crockery. Don't go for plants as it will be difficult to maintain and won't be a safe option. Or just keep it open. By covering up you might end up making space look more crowded. -Thanks, -Neelam -Lines and Profile

vedikaseth Bombay rains are harsh! The one thing you can do is use flexible covers that work similar to roller blinds, and are transparent which allows the light to enter. There are many companies that offer such a product. Just choose one where the installation is easy and taking down the sheets is not an issue once the rains are over. Do keep in mind however that the water will still enter the balcony, you will simply be reducing the force of rains, and will require a water outlet.

Hello there, If you don't want to put load on your foundation, why don't you put a pergola of cement/steel/wood instead of a concrete roof slab? You could do a bit of landscaping too and could fully utilise the terrace. Regards, Aurum Ideas and Spaces Bhubaneswar
