I would however like to clarify my requirements/dilemma a bit more. 1) The built/carpet area for this 3 BHK is about 1600 sqft (Superbuilt 1960 sqft). What is the appropriate tile size I need to scout for? More specifically, will Ultima-range-like huge tile sizes (i.e. 120x180cm2, 120x120cm2) be suitable for this area? 2) While I am thinking of white (based) tiles, I am not necessarily looking for super-white tones (it gives a bit of a commercial look, and will need extreme maintenance). Something more practical, and with some depth/dimension is what I am trying to identify. Any suggestions? 3) Would you advice that I consider other white-toned flooring options like Terrazzo (Bharat Floorings is having a Cast-in-Situ option, but I am yet to go to their showroom)? Hi, A] Vitrified vs ceramic Ceramic tiles are porous and have a tendency to absorb water while vitrified tiles are impervious and water resistant. Ceramic tiles are usually used indoors and vitrified can be used indoors, outdoors as well as in heavy traffic commercial areas because of their resistance to wear and tear. Ceramic tiles are cheaper as compared to vitrified. Ceramic tiles are prone to cracking and breaking as they are essentially made of baked clay. Vitrified tiles have a very strong material strength and do not break that easily. B] Tiles with wooden patterns These are available both as vitrified and ceramic tiles. They come in actual plank sizes (165mm x 900mm) and also in tile sizes (2'x4') etc. Go for the actual plank size as they don't look fake (the pictures below illustrate). Here ceramic wins, since they provide better texture and feel as compared to vitrified. They require pigmented cement to fill the joints in order to give the seamless wooden look. Hello there, Please visit a tile studio of reputed brands like Kajaria/Somany/RAK rather than an ordinary tile dealer. You would get a better idea on materials, dimensions and colors. Since you have a large BUA, you could go for large format tiles for flooring of the sizes 1200 x 600 mm 800 x 800 mm Anything bigger than that would be a sheer loss in case of breakage and maintenance as well.
