Installing curtain rods at the ceiling is a great way to add height to a space, but the drapes will cost a bit more because they will have to be longer. You might get a better picture quality if you installed a projection screen over one of the windows which could be raised out of the way when not in use.

There is no average height for the table and chairs.There're height standards for all the furniture. The standard height for the table is 30" and for the chair, it is 18". The depth of the table should be atleast 36". It might be a little broad say 42" but not more. The length if the table is defined with the seats required. The chair seat size should be 16" with the back height be 30" atleast. It might be more depending upon the design of the table.

Hi Ardhendu, Double heights add a lot of light and volume to a space. However, a lot depends on the overall planning of the rooms around it and the resulting size of the slab cut out for the double height. If you are only left with a small shaft like space, it reflects poorly on the design. Also, the placement of the slab cut out is crucial in a living space considering movement, furniture placement, lighting and ventilation. Ok Monika, for the beam running in the middle of the room you can clad it to make it a part of the design but it needs to be planned properly. You may need professional help there.
