is this one wood or steel? if wood which species? and how has is fared in the soil / grass?

it is wood and we set the posts in crushed stone (3/4") with the holes lined with fabric. from my experience it will fare well.

Some kind of teak wood would be best. IPE is what this looks like. Please purchase responsibility as it is harvested by clear cutting in some areas. FSC is best.

Sree, There are so many products that can be used for finishing a TV unit. Laminates, Veneers, Glass, Charcoal, WallPaper, MDF, Duco, PU, Wooden & Stone Claddings .. just the few that come to top of mind. But what is that you wanted to understand about these. it is mahogany and it is not painted. it will silver in time. we also built a ballustrade and stairs on a deck which is mahogany. they will silver along with it.
