Living room wall

Hi,
I am looking for living room walls in either of the following pattern (look wise).

1. Brick pattern
2. Wooden pattern
3. Stone pattern

However to add to my confusion, there are multiple ways to achieve the same.

1. Wallpaper
2. Actual brick wall
3. Actual stone cladding
4. Ceramic Wall tiles (any of the above pattern)
5. Vitrified wall tiles (wood pattern)
6. Laminated plywood
7. Wood planks mounted on wall

I am actually very confused. In would be really helpful if someone can explain the pros and cons and relative cost of them.

Hello Bikas,

Besides the ones mentioned above there are few other options.Not going into that..

The cost is completely variable upon the material, brand selected and also your location and area to be covered. But just roughly in increasing cost order wall papers, tiles, cladding.

Please note that this is at a high level only so a wall paper may work out most costly option depending upon the choice.

Wall papers - are cheaper, no hassle installation.
Life is lesser and requires care.. Looks monotonous due to repetition of pattern. Very easy to replace.

Tiles . Relatively cheap, slight pain in installation. Long life low maintenance.. Looks monotonus and difficult to change. Provides protection to wall..

Cladding. May be costlier. Installation requires patience and expertise. Low on maintenance and not monotonus provides real touch and feel. Not easy to replace..

Any material you use should be real. For example a wood pattern tile looks tacky simply because it is a fake. Wood should be wood or at tleast a laminate. Pick tiles and that too large format with little joints only if you require a hard wearing surface with some sheen. Otherwise choose wood or paint for timeless design.

Hi Vijaya, you could use some panelling with interesting inlay or play around with colors once you decide your tv and home theater. I suggest you have ledge or some storage underneath where ur sub woofer and DVD players can be placed. Make sure they have ample power points. Remember to keep them ventilated as most of them tend to get heated. You could use the same ledge to place ur laptop on the extreme end and place cushions or puffins to double as extra sitting. The adjacent wall is a great place to convert into a library. If you have any chair in that area it may block the entrance. Cheers.

I can think of a lot of ways to do this. Like you mentioned, you can put up a family photo collage, or some bright abstract painting which has a ting of red in it, as you have red dining chairs. or you can still retain the mirror which you have there and add two strips of verticle wallpaper to make it more lively.

Whether you pick paint or wallpaper,you should choose the right material for your wall.But one thing keep in mind,material that you are going to select for your wall should be easy to clean.Fabric wall panel is the best as they give elegant look as well as they are good protecting materials.Keep sharing.

I would suggest you to go for either actual stone cladding or ceramic wall tiles.

Natural stone cladding provides a rich look to your walls and last comparatively longer than wallpaper. Although initial cost might appear to high but in the long run, it is the cost-effective solution for your walls as it requires very low-maintenance.

Going for wallpaper would not be a very nice option especially if you are looking for something long-lasting. They not only get damaged easily because of moisture or other factors but would also stain your wall when they come out.

Ceramic tiles is also a nice option to go for. You can get a huge variety in terms of size, colour, pattern etc. If you are looking for not-so-expensive option then ceramic mosaic tiles is the viable option. However, you should know that ceramic tiles take quite a long time to warm up during winters and cool down during summers.

Wooden Planks would make your interior look elegant but it is very susceptible to temperature change and can easily get damaged with water. Also it might not go too well with modern architecture.
