Is the amount of sun that also streams in from the uppers disturbingly too much?

With the door there, seems valance or cornice is good. If not for the door, maybe something like this:

If you need light/temp control, start with that and consider a roller shade. The upper windows can be motorized to keep them functional. Then, I would consider hanging stationary drapery panels on each side of the bank of 6 windows and ignore the door and window above it. Hang the drapery at ceiling height to the floor. This will soften the room and depending on your fabric selection, will provide a dramatic focal point. If you choose a more neutral fabric, it can be beautiful, but allow you to select a different focal point for the room.

I would place a rod right UNDER your top Windows leave you top open... maybe grommets that can be pulled to the right. you can type in the HOUZZ website modern window treatments or transitional window treatments and look at different options...

if there wall space to the left of your door maybe tall drapes from the very top of your ceiling and just drape the left of your door and the very right of your room just for panel colors... then only on the bottom blinds on your door and the same ones all the way across that way you are not making a tall skinning box... it will widen your room...

I would prefer to recommend to the left of the door, but there isn't room for that.

What about 'thermal' roman shades? Seems any curtain would be in the way to side of a door....

Some options for privacy and reduce light would be the following from lowest to highest priced:

    1. Faux wood blinds

    2. Dual screen shades-can do a screen shade and a privacy shade

    3. Top down bottom up cellular shades

    4. Shutters

    5. Silhouettes

    6. Pirouettes
