You have lots of options...Drapery Panels work well either on decorative rods or underneath a cornice...also Traversing Vertical Blinds/Panels can be a great choice...
Most of us designers hate vertical blinds so I cannot be happy about that thought. But I agree with In Touch that draperies are a great solution for sliding doors. You can place a drapery rod above your window and hide it with a simple wooden cornice. The draperies can either be center opening or they could stack to the left, though they would cover part of the window if they go in that direction. With a center opening, you can make the draperies wide enough to leave the glass totally uncovered if you wish.
There are attractive drapery rods that traverse and your designer can tell you the cost difference between an attractive rod that is totally exposed and a simple rod that you can hide behind a cornice. Usually a cornice will be less expensive and will give you a rod that works very well.
Note that if your draperies are center opening, you will have light switches on the right that are covered by the draperies. Carolyn Albert-Kincl, ASID
One of the best things we did in one of our previous homes was to replace our 8 ft. aluminum slider/patio doors with 5 ft. sliders with internal blinds (Pella). Those doors had a western exposure so the whole room would heat up in the evening in summer. Problem solved!
