I would say at present your room is too crowded. also too bright /shiny colors. In India large / wall to wall rug/carpet can be problem with dust so a small cotton rug/carpet/dhurrie would help you. Also as Celerygirl mentioned please remove those sofa covers. add few cushions with nice cotton covers (ikat/block printed covers are quite cheap and easily available online) Get simple cotton/ or mixed curtains. Some wall art/framed posters /photos would be nice on walls. Also sheet on the diwan should match the color of your sofa.

Tentatively you can have a platform on the 6' wall with 21" depth do you can provide 16" deep baskets and one full height cabinet which can accommodate your microwave and other utilities. You will get around 42" of platform for hot plate, a sink etc.
