Are there pieces of furniture or rugs in your living room that you need to coordinate into your colors and design? Or is it a blank slate, so to speak? Are there colors or design styles you are particularly attracted to? I certainly feel I need more information to give you specific advice about the space. All I see are almost bare walls, what looks like the top of a corner desk and a TV. I'm also not sure about your comment about ledge stone. Hi Anchal, You may go for different flooring materials for different rooms. However here are a few pros and cons - Pros - Different floorings demarcate the formal and informal spaces in a house and can add character to the space. Colourful IPS flooring, wooden flooring etc. are used these days to highlight a certain space such as the balcony/ terrace and drawing room respectively. You can spend more on the more formal spaces such as dining, living and drawing and go for cheaper flooring options for the bedrooms, bathrooms and balconies. Tip: It is best to appoint an interior designer or an architect if you are opting for different floors and they can guide you better with respect to the colours and combinations. Cons - Different types of flooring visually divide the space and make it look smaller than it actually is. Also, as rightly mentioned above, the wastage of material is more as compared to going for a single flooring type. A single type of flooring a makes the space look seamless and hence larger to perceive. Italian marble works best when going for this option. You may also go for other stones such as granite, jaisalmer and kota. If it gets too monotonous, grooves, different sized stones and patterns of laying can help break it. I have used both with good results. The main difference between Quartz and Granite are 1) price, 2) colour range. Granite generally works out cheaper, because you can buy the exact quantity you require. Quartz comes in large slabs of specific sizes- standard size being roughly 10'-0" x 4'6", so there tends to be more wastage if you don't plan the cutting well. But Quartz is pretty and comes in a wide range of colours and can be re-buffed at a later date. Quartz also comes in various thicknesses- the most commonly used being .75" to about 1.25". And especially when you use dark wood cabinets in a kitchen or bathroom, beige and white counter tops work very well. Some people go even with coloured counter tops like blue, orange, yellow. Natural stone in light colours tend to be porous and stain easily, so I prefer to go with pure black which is safe.
