My stairs are exactly the same structure and the end (approx 6") extends into the doorway which opens into the kitchen. So anybody coming out of the kitchen would bump into this corner. The doorway is 3' wide and one way is to extend the wall on the step side as suggested by arlendau....but the opening on the other side can't be extended further! So, then the entrance to kitchen would be 2'6"....which is quite small. Other way is to round off the extended corner- which I don't want to do. The house is under construction(nearing completion) and I don't live in it presently...can get and upload the actual pics on weekend only. Attaching the floorplan snapshot of the problem area. Any other way out?

thanks for you idea \ but i will clarify a few more points 1.the area for bedroom and sitting room is on 1st floor 2. it is actualyy like a big hall unpartitioned at the moment 3. the sitting /living room is not like a common room ,it is only for this bedroom 4. i dont want to change postion of the bed on any other wall,i want it to be the partioning ,in some unique way. 5. i dont want the room to be totally divided into two halves by the partition --whatever is designed . 6.the siiting room is proposed to have a book shelf on one wall ,provision for tv panel and one single seater cane swing (hanging type). I HOPE THIS CLARIFIES THE PICTURE SOME MORE can you think for me now and help with some unique idea.

you could also do french doors. either with windows or without. Don't know if you could do a pocket door. that's the sleekest option but more work.

What are those red curved lines? The measurement is also not clear. What i understood with this is that , You should have two different rooms - one is formal drawing room with only sitting area and for that you need not provide a partition as it should look grand from your entryway and second one should be the living room. There you must give a partition between both the rooms so that the person sitting in the drawing room cannot peek in the living room and it'll be kind of privacy as other area will also be not directly visible . By giving a partition you are messing up the passage way more.
