Comments (13)One possibility would be to swap the living room and the dining room. Since the current living room is larger than the current dining room you could still keep some comfortable seating (couch and upholstered chairs?) against the front wall for a keeping room/dining concept. Then your new dining areas (kitchen and dining room) and living areas (living and drawing room) would have good flow between them, which would work well both for family and entertaining. You could also add some builtin bookshelves in the drawing room or new living room to create a library area to add another fun element to the living areas. These bookshelves could be against the long walls in the drawing room, around the window with a window seat in the living room (former dining room), or built to create some separation in the open area between the drawing room and living room/stair area. Your plan seems to show some sort of builtin there, but I'm not sure what it is....See MoreNeed help designing this tiny bathroom space
Comments (2)dojani30 is right, a pocket door is your very best option. As it is now the door placement makes it necessary to enter the entire room before the door can be closed and that's awkward....See MoreI want a door there (red rectangle area)
Comments (20)Most my doors were already here, but I did have one moved over, about 6 inches. However, the entire space was demo'd, and rebuilt, so that's not the best example to draw from. If you want the door hidden, in a pocket, yes, you will need a skilled carpenter. Essentially, the opening header and frame, will become twice it's size, with the "pocket" part, hidden behind the wall. The studs/supports will need to be removed to make a space for the door to slide into. Do you have any switches or outlets on the fireplace wall?...See MoreEntry into Dining Area - Privacy considerations.
Comments (9)This is on 2nd floor. I've seen people reclaim their entry way, but to be sure I'll need to check with the builder on if its mine to rebuild. If not allowed, then shelf from 3rd picture will be the next best thing! Pocket door sure is an interesting idea, but the builder has already installed 3 ft wide door. I'll check on the cost involved then take a call....See MoreJudy Mishkin
