It's difficult to get on the bed and off it, in a platform bed. Also if you wake up in the night without lights chances are you may hit the platform when getting off or on.

A tall head board would be ideal if you want to cover the huge horizontal expanse of wall but if have a moderate sized bedroom, have a short head board but it should be visible above the pillows or a separate head board fixed to the wall or just a dark carved wooden shelf , not to too broad should work
