Yes, JudyG that's exactly the way people were using the taller table. Sort of a café look, or casual bar setting. One home had a beautiful huge kitchen all done in white with dark wood floors and RH style fixtures and hardware. Where you would normally think would be a traditional dining room, they had made it up with a large high table and 6 barstools. It almost looked like an extension of the island. Another one was in a very open and light kitchen. It was smaller and where you might think of putting a breakfast nook they had a round café-style table with four barstools. I liked it because it gave a more casual appearance. If people were sitting at them, they were on the same level as those working in the kitchen. Almost like a bar at the island for that effect, but with some separation.

Your right. I think it might look better without the couch. We just purchased the gray couch and moved the brown couch there until we sell it. Now that the brown couch is there my husband likes it. He likes to read his newspaper in the morning on it. I was thinking of putting a side table in place of the couch of getting a cover for it.

If you opt for traditional you can make use of the following tips : - A traditionally styled home or space need not have too many intricately carved elements or antiques. A few iconic ones scattered throughout do the trick. You may always underplay the rest of the furniture whilst highlighting a single chair or you may highlight a wall either by using a colour or wallpaper and keep the rest of the walls neutral. This way you don't end up with a gaudy design. - Invest in a good piece of furniture such as your bed, or dining table set or sofa. Try Lajpat Nagar market in Delhi or Chor Bazar, Raj Company in Mumbai. All the rest items such as tv units, cabinets, wardrobes can be made in a modular fashion and finished with veneer to maintain continuity. Avoid laminates wherever possible.
