Do you have any pictures of the space?

Hi---a photo would be helpful. To give the sense that there is more space-I suggest keeping the palette light (little contrast in color) and add a glass or ceramic backsplash to create depth/dimension. Good lighting is a must.

Hi - thanks for your feedback. No pics, this is a new build. It is a 1300 sq. foot flat. Plan shows an 8x8 room for the kitchen. Three walls are closed, and the door can be located anywhere on the 4th wall. Should the door be in the centre with u-shape on the walls for max counter space? Where to put that fridge?! Many people in India put the fridge in the dining area or lobby just outside the kitchen if the kitchen is small, but I dont like that at all! Anyone know of software that might help me plan?

8x8 is not a very big kitchen. The flat is 1300 sq ft but the kitchen is only 64 sq ft? It seems out of proportion. Here's an ideabook on a 90 sq ft kitchen that you might find helpful. Consider using a 24" fridge instead of a standard 30" width, also you should be able to get a 24" stove and a smaller sink. That might help you a bit.

An 8'x8' kitchen is a classic deadend galley style kitchen.

Option A is to locate the refrigerator adjacent to the center doorway, stove with exhaust hood in the middle of the dead end end wall, sink in the center of the wall opposite the refrigerator. LOGIC: Classic triangular work relationship, plenty of counter workspace, easy access to refrigerator for others without interfering with someone cooking at the stove, space on each side of the sink for a dishrack.

Option B really can't beat Option A unless your building's plumbing wall dictates other locations for your sink and stove.

Is there a window in the kitchen? This can also have impact on the layout.
