Hi

We are getting are kitchen and living area renovated and want to decide on flooring. Currently we have carpet but want to select between Hardwood , poreclain( marble look) or marble. Since we want one flow and one material we are unable to decide.

Currently our kitchen cabinets in white shaker style and countertop is white macaubas quartzite.

If basically everything is white, than I think hardwood is the right choice. It's really in right now and I think it would make a great contrast with the white.

You think its might be too light ? We are going for the light color with consideration that are area is too small.

No. I think that color is perfect. If it's a very small space, than lighter hardwood is the way to go:)

A living space that is 500sf seems small until you try to pay for marble/procelain tile and the labour for installation. For a tiled area, 500sf (in Canada and many cool/cold areas) that is quite large with a pretty heavy installation price (tile and stone installation is 3x - 5x the cost of labour for wood).

You would be surprised at the final costs when comparing wood (rather easy with rather easy labour costs) vs. stone/tile (complicated install with labour costs to match). Depending on where you are, the wood is more appropriate in cool climates whereas the stone/porcelain is more appropriate for warm climates.

You could always install a wood looking porcelain tile. It's a very popular look in our area. If you're concerned about it being cold, you can always use an under floor heating element. One of the great benefits to using a high quality porcelain tile is that you're not going to have any maintenance. It's stain resistant and isn't going to scratch and wear like real wood.

If you are looking for the overall best product for long term cost efficiency & maintenance then the only choice is tile. Hardwood in the kitchen is not practical as it is an area that can be prone to water damage. Using a product such as Warmly Yours radiant heat under porcelain tile will keep the floors warm and cut down your overall heating costs. Tile also has the many other advantages such as being environmentally friendly within the home. From a design perspective you need to choose a look that works with your home and that you will still like 5 years from now. There are both wood look and stone look tiles on the market so as long as the design is consistent and flows through your space either will work for you. Here are a couple of examples of wood plank porcelain tile

I would recommend a nice hardwood floor. A wide plank white oak is a great look and it is very popular at the moment.
