Hello Adarsh, I can understand the need for a simple makeover for this room , given that you are a student, budget might also be a huge constraint for you. A few tips : Lighting is key, Invest in a good downlighter (not a tube) right above where you study, be sure that it is not placed above your head as there are chances you will have your shadow on your books. Buy a standard desk which is a minimum of 90 cms width, make sure it is clutter free (including your desktop ) use a pastel colour (suggest beige or light chocolate or tan)on the currently purple wall. Purple can sometimes be too strong and overpowering. (A reason why an interior designer has to be consulted when someone builds a house, everything that looks good on something else need not be the most appropriate on your walls ). Have some plain straightline bookshelves (you can get them online) on your wall that can help clear the clutter off your desk. Invest in a good ergonomic chair which can be tilted back or revolved as needed . A straight back chair will also do good to your posture. Have a small rug with some floor cushions on your floor for some floor reading area so that you dont have to plop yourself on the bed and then end up dozing off !! Hope this helps you Smitha

If your ceiling to floor height is approx. 8- 9' , and there is sufficient light from the windows, we suggest 5 w for ambience light, 10 w for general light and 15w for task light. Living room should be a combination of yellow and natural light. if it will be used as work area for study , then white light should be included. Generally school projects are made on dining table so white light should be used along with yellow. Kitchen task light should be white. Passage and bedroom could be yellow. Ambient light is generally warm white and yellow. For watching TV, indirect and ambient light is advisable.

We once did a desk for a wheelchair-friendly living space. We couldn't afford to have the desk in the way of the wheelchair when not in use. So we fitted it against the wall with a hydraulic hinge support. The desk top which was nestled against the wall would lift up and lock with one touch of the hand on the edge when required, and similarly move back flat against the wall when not in use

Make the most of a small study room by incorporating open shelves and wall-mounted desks.
