Cabinet Joint
Custom Cabinet Doors in Charlotte.
“I am a 57 year old male who, along with only my wife's assistance, has refaced my entire kitchen by using support services and materials provided by The Cabinet Joint, specifically working with the owner, Brian Long. Our project is almost complete, and I would like to express my views concerning Mr. Long and his company.
1) I am a typical DIYer with carpentry skills ranging from low to excellent, depending upon the specific task. My tools are mostly basic quality, but function as intended. Before becoming involved with the Cabinet Joint, my knowledge of cabinets and refacing was ZERO. I would not have been able to explain the difference between a raised panel and a shaker door, I did not know how to measure a door opening to determine the proper door size, I did not know what any of the following terms meant: door overlay, hinge boring distance, raised panel door, shaker door, returning molding on itself, etc. I had not the faintest idea how concealed hinges worked. I did not know how to properly install cabinet doors, drawer fronts, or end panels.
2) Our laminate counter top badly needed replacing. So we decided to purchase a quartz counter top to place on our exsisting 1991 builder grade cabinets. We soon realized, however, that putting quartz on our dated, honey oak cabinets would be a foolish investment. Since our budget would not allow full cabinet replacement in our medium size kitchen, I spent months researching refacing options. We decided to call one of the big boxes to get a refacing quote. I received 3 phone calls from the big box prior to our quote meeting, with the big box representative stating each time "please ensure that both of the financial decision makers in the family are present at the meeting", and then they asked for my wife's full name. Of course, this sent off alarm bells for me, so on the 3rd call, I asked to speak to the regional manager of this big box operation. Without identifying himself by name, he came on the phone and said "here's the deal...our refacing STARTS at $432 a linear foot, and that is with just basic veneer, not wood grained." My kitchen contains about 35 linear feet of base and wall cabinets, so a basic big box reface would have cost between $15,120 and $21,000 for VENEERED frames.
3) As a result of all of the above, I spent several more weeks looking for alternatives. By sheer luck, I stumbled onto the web site for The Cabinet Joint. I called them, and Brian Long answered. I discovered that they provide 1/4" thick actual wood (vs. veneer) to reface with, and they provide it in your choice of finish. I told Brian I would call him back, and dug deep into the website. I discovered a vast array of solid wood doors in every conceivable style and finish, along with exact match, real wood refacing materials.
4) But I also discovered something even more important. Since I was unsure if I could do this job myself, I began asking Brian Long about the entire refacing process. Without exaggeration, I asked him literally THOUSANDS of questions of the course of several months via both phone and email) before I even made a purchase. And guess what? He calmly and completely answered each and every one of my questions to the best of his ability. Try to find that kind of customer service elsewhere, especially if you have not committed to a purchase yet! This customer sevice is what sold me on the company.
5) I made a partial order in October 2015 for materials to reface a small section of cabinets. I considered this a "test section". Well, with my moderate skills, and the knowledge gained from The Cabinet Joint, the "test area" came out beautifully and far beyond my expectations.
6) I continued to purchase material, and continued to ask questions. 3 months later, while remodeling other rooms in addition to the kitchen, the cabinets are 95% complete. I will attach before (light oak) and after (Dark Bordeaux solid hard maple) pictures. Understand that in the pictures, the floor has not been refinished yet, the toe kicks have not been installed, and the backsplash has not yet been installed. Also understand that the pictures do not do this kitchen justice. I cannot imagine a better made door than the Conestoga Brand, and I have never experienced customer service the likes of which is provided by The Cabinet Joint. In fact, it is almost like they partner with you to help you complete your kitchen. That being said, however, for a refacing project, you are not hiring their labor, and they are not on the job with you. It is up to you, as the homeowner, to make the final and critical decisions concerning your project. When a company is not on-site and cannot view your project in person, the most that can be expected from them is to provide you with some possible suggestions. After all, you are not paying money for their extensive design work, nor their labor. However, for only around $5,700, I was able to give myself and my wife a kitchen to be proud of, and the lifetime inner glow of a job well done, with the much needed help of The Cabinet Joint.
I cannot say enough positive things about Mr. Long and his Company. If you are willing to take ownership of your project, and if you are willing to ask questions and receive knowledgable answers, The Cabinet Joint is the way to go. This kitchen was done for about $5,700 in materials, not including the backsplash and quartz counter top. We will be forever proud of our accomplishment, and we have and always will strongly recommend The Cabinet Joint.”
Mint Hill Cabinet Shop
Custom Cabinet Doors in Charlotte.
“Mint Hill Cabinet Shop did a fantastic job building all of the cabinets in an extensive renovation that included a new kitchen, laundry, mudroom and family room. We could not be more pleased with their craftsmanship, and guests almost always remark that they love our cabinets.
Jerry was a pleasure to work with. It was clear he was dedicated to making sure the final product met our expectations. He walked us through all of our options, and was quick to turn around an estimate based on what we selected. When it was time to pick finishes, he created a number of samples (even adding in his own ideas, one of which we picked!) so we could confidently make a choice.
The perimeter kitchen cabinets are painted, with inset shaker-style doors and antique glass at the top. The island is a beautiful stained knotty alder with custom legs. In our family room, Mint Hill built the lower cabinets with geometric cutout MDF screening panels so the cabinet is ventilated for our electronics. Remotes work great while the doors are closed, and the cabinets look beautiful. They built a custom mantle for the living room, and a custom shoe bench and shelf for our mudroom. The laundry room cabinets have a built-in area for our washer and dryer and accommodate a farmhouse sink. They are also painted inset shaker doors, with full antique glass uppers along the sink wall for displaying china and crystal.
I can’t say enough good things about Mint Hill Cabinet Shop, and will definitely use them on our next project.”

Citified Woods

“After spending considerable time looking in vain for a qualified builder for a custom display cabinet for my 6-foot tall scale model, I was excited when I finally found Citified Woods. Following an initial phone conversation, Myers Guthrie visited my home to gain an insight of my project, and after a 15 minute conversation, I was 100 percent certain he fully grasped what I wanted. He promptly created a few preliminary CAD drawings for my review and proposed several changes and enhancements that I hadn't considered. Myers then provided a detailed contract which I approved and he began work on the cabinet immediately. As the project was nearing completion, he brought the unfinished piece to my home for a test fit, lighting check, and assembly/disassembly trial run. This courtesy, along with several revisions and enhancements to the cabinet detail and lighting system, was extended at no charge or adjustment to the initial contract.
I am elated with the completed display cabinet as it has by far exceeded my vision and expectations, due mostly to the exquisite workmanship and creativity of Citified Woods. The project was completed in a timely manner at the original contract price. Myers Guthrie knows what he's doing when it comes to fine work working; he is remarkably creative and loves the challenge of a unique project. I would highly recommend Citified Woods for any high-end, custom woodworking project.”
