“I have a small home that was built in 1940. The space was very blocked off (separate living spaces divided by walls with doors.) I wanted to have an open kitchen/dining room and living room and wanted to be able to use my space more efficiently. Also, my chimney and oven were in the middle of the space and I wanted to keep them in the same spot to avoid a complicated (and potentially costly) relocation of gas lines and flue/gas ventilation. The design they came up with was awesome, and something I would never have thought of on my own. The fireplace and stove/oven turned out to be the coolest part of the layout. Dave and his team constructed seamless floating shelves that wrap around the chimney creating a great focal point. The combination of wood, brick, stainless steel and variations of teal make it a dream space for me. I was nervous about doing a renovation after hearing horror stories from friends and family about bad contractors. But my experience Honeycomb Design Build turned out great! Our project went quite smoothly, staying on schedule thanks to the fact that my office is in the house and Scott's commitment to providing a foreman. This enabled us to make decisions quickly and address problems promptly. Scott and his crew showed a lot of creativity in meeting our requirement to stay in the house during the renovation, to the extent of setting up a temporary kitchen and shower in the basement. In the end, we only had to be out of the house for about a week. He was also very good about coordinating with our architect and the cabinetmaker that we selected ourselves. Having heard a few horror stories of renovation cost overruns, I think we also did well in this respect. Our final figure was about 10% more than the initial estimate due to the kind of unforeseen issues that can be expected on any such project, along with a few changes that we ordered. The level of detail Scott provides in his constantly updated spreadsheet also helped us to make some decisions that reduced our cost.”

“We worked with Carpenter & MacNeille over the winter and early spring of 2014 to redecorate The Inn at Castle Hill, a ten-room B&B in Ipswich, Massachusetts. The project included new and reupholstered furniture, new rugs/carpeting, new paint and wallpaper, new lighting, new window treatments, and accessories (accent pillows, decorative items, etc.), and a small amount of construction. We were looking for "design wow" in keeping with the five-star nature of the Inn, which is nestled into a corner of The Crane Estate, a seaside country estate that has been designated a National Historic Landmark. They listened carefully to our goals for this project, understood precisely what we hoped to accomplish, helped us prioritize in ways that significantly improved our impact, and provided insightful design guidance along the way.
