Candace M P Smith Architect
3D Rendering in Earlysville.
“After interviewing several architects to design a home for us in Rockbridge Baths, VA, we chose Candace Smith. She totally fulfilled our expectations. She was an active listener as well as a creative collaborator. She was able to blend our ideas for a home with the skill and knowledge needed to develop building plans. The end result is a stunning as well as functional home overlooking the Blue Ridge Mountains.
We met frequently with Candace Smith on the building site and in her office to ensure that the house would meet our expectations which included placing the house in just the right location to maximize the views. Additionally, she joined us in interviewing prospective builders and worked with him throughout the construction process. In sum, Candace is a superb architect and it was wonderful to work with her and her staff.”

“I hired Steve to design and install the entry gardens to our house. The location was a fairly steep slope that was difficult to mow, and in full sun. I wanted year-round interest, but not requiring frequent planting or tending. With a combination of hollies, nandinas, barberries and several focal point trees, my entry gardens look great all year. Steve oversaw the tilling of yards of compost to improve water retention and enrich the existing soil. Plants were carefully set out according to his plans and have blended into a harmonious tapestry. As a long time gardener, I was impressed with Steve's knowledge of plant material and the way he combined it. He is easy to work with and has an artistic eye. I would highly recommend his services.”
Pillar & Perch: Architects + Builders
3D Rendering in Earlysville.
“Working with Ben Robbins (and the entire team at Pillar & Perch) has truly been a wonderful experience. Throughout our project to design and build a new home for us, they have consistently been knowledgeable, professional, and are a pleasure to work with. After listening to what we wanted and looking at our lot, Ben’s first design was nearly spot on (we only tweaked a few very minor things). That was impressive! Then, throughout the build process, they have gone out of their way to please us and ensure that we’re happy. Ben is very responsive and keeps us informed as to what is going on, and has even found us some ways to save money without sacrificing from the architectural integrity of the project.
I highly recommend this company, and would use them again in a heartbeat.”

“Ruth Ellen completed a whole-house renovation (2003) and a screen porch design (2012) for our family. She is insightful, practical, and thinks of things to incorporate into her designs that we never in a million years would have thought of. She's got inter-personal and listening skills that would make a professional mediator jealous--traits that come in handy when managing the expectations and goals of a builder, owner, and even spouses! Working with her has always been a pleasure, and ten years on we are proud to call her our friend as well as our architect.”
Wassenaar + Winkler

“It truly was a pleasure working with Greg Winkler an architect with Wassenaar + Winkler. I was referred to their company from one of the top reputable builders in Nelson County for my Amherst project. My Amherst client's hired me on as their interior designer. It was a great day when I called Greg Winkler. He has such patience with great attention to detail along with a phenomenal work ethic. His professionalism my client's were also very impressed by. The collaboration between Greg and I along with the client's vision helped create the perfect plans. The end result was a huge success! Thank you again Wassenaar + Winkler for all your knowledge and expertise along with quality work. I highly recommend this architect company and look forward to working with them again.

Heath Wills Home Designs, llc
3D Rendering in Earlysville.
“Heath was a pleasure to work with and ultimately gave us everything we were looking for and more when designing our dream home. We had the majority of our architectural plans completed and we asked Heath to take a look at them and give us his input along with some major changes we needed to make to them. We went from a 2 car garage to a 3 car detached garage with an apartment above it and completely relied on Heath's design expertise to design an open breezeway and apartment above the garage. He cleaned up our overall plans for us and fine tuned a lot of details.
Heath works quickly, efficiently and uses the latest software developments that allowed us to design our home in 2 dimension and 3 dimension. The virtual 3D of our home brought it to more of a realistic preview that we could walk through before it was actually built. Heath has a tremendous skill set when designing plans and really helped us get to a unified end goal of designing a home we want to live in forever. He had a lot of great suggestions throughout the process and many of the changes were made right in front of us on on the large screen during our meetings. I've never seen an architect do what Heath does! Whether starting from scratch or having a cohesive concept already in mind, Heath can do it all. If we were designing another home we would without a doubt work with Heath again however, since we built our "forever" home, hopefully we won't have to design another home. :) Thanks Heath! -Damond & Dawn”

“Working with Alloy Workshop has been very easy. They came up with great ideas to fit our needs, style, and priorities. They helped us make decisions about the project. Their meticulous planning of the project has made the construction stage very smooth. Everyone who works there is super friendly and professional.”
Wolf Ackerman Design
3D Rendering in Earlysville.
“We hired Wolf Ackerman in 2006 to design a modern two-story addition to our 1920 bungalow in Charlottesville, Virginia. Across the board, we give Fred and Dave (the firm’s principals) and their staff the highest of marks. They delivered everything you could ask for – thoughtful design, excellent service, creative and challenging ideas, and clear communication. They struck the perfect balance between listening to and respecting what we wanted, and pushing those ideas forward into a refined and cohesive design that we never could have formulated ourselves. Wolf Ackerman recognizes that design is inherently an iterative process, and they were consistently excellent at finding creative and thoughtful solutions to small issues while staying true to our collective vision. The end result was a wonderful addition that more than doubled the size of our home, while respecting the character of the original structure, and beautifully integrated the old with the new. While modest in space and material choices due to our budget, Wolf Ackerman envisioned and then created a space that consistently made people say “wow” when they walked in, while at the same time made a home that our family loved to live in. A job change and a move forced us to us to sell this house, but it is a place we loved living in and will always miss. We would recommend Wolf Ackerman to anyone looking for talented and dedicated designers who can deliver thoughtful and creative modern architecture and are wonderful to work with.

“Fred was a pleasure to work with. Friendly but professional. Innovative. Cost and value conscious. He also has a history as a builder and woodworker which is quite helpful. He was very helpful in working with us to finish our design process and because of him we likely have a more beautiful and functional building than we otherwise would have. He was very helpful in figuring out what we could do ourselves and what we should hire out.”
Johnson, Craven & Gibson
3D Rendering in Earlysville.
“I have worked on three projects with this architectural firm. Once in 2006, - a large general renovation & restoration of a 1940's house. New Kitchen, new Bathroom, new electric, & some reconfiguration of rooms. The second project, in 2011, was on a slightly smaller project in the $100,000 range for a Bathroom Spa with steam, fireplace and a guest suite area. The third project in 2013, in the $20-49,000 price range dealt with an outdoor patio "room" , and exterior architectural renovations. On all projects, this firm was really excellent in its communication with me, attention to detail, timeliness in producing drawings, clear billing procedures and knowledge of architectural appropriateness to the existing building. They were also able to handle the "unexpected" and "unforeseen" situations ( which most always appear in a restoration of an old home) with ease and often very imaginative solutions. I can't recommend them highly enough.”
