They knew immediately what we were going for and managed to not just bring our vision to life but improve on it in ways I couldn’t have imagined. “We live in a 1918 Oak Park bungalow, complete with art glass windows and loads of woodwork throughout. Our kitchen was a late 80s powder blue counters and laminate cabinets--did not match our home or our needs for a big family. Tom Bassett-Dilley and his team completely rethought our space and designed a functional and beautiful space that matches the rest of our home. We can now entertain family and friends in a spacious, sophisticated kitchen. The mud room and sun room were also part of this project--reclaiming space so every inch our our house is useable, efficient and stunning!”

“Searl Lamaster Howe is a firm that genuinely listens to the client. The project was a true collaboration, and the results astonishing. The architects are responsive, responsible and super-creative. They took a rundown country house and, essentially maintaining the footprint of the original home, turned it into something splendid at reasonable cost. SLH's attention to detail (e.g. custom cabinetry), use of ecologically sensitive materials, and thoughtful consideration of ongoing operating costs (e.g. geothermal heat and A/C) have contributed to a resounding success. The client is ecstatic, and the project has been recognized by numerous awards from the American Institute of Architects and others, as well as publicity in national newspapers and journals. The architects are a pleasure to work with. Recommended without reservation. Photos are on the houzz.com website.”

“Jeff brought a modern spin to our traditional looking home. Living in the city, with homes so close together, we are limited on natural sunlight. Jeff designed a wall of glass onto the West wall of our staircase, which spans 4 stories and brings lots of sunlight into our home. There are also 6 decks that he designed, giving us an abundance of outdoor space, which is a rarity in city homes. The other thing he designed into our home that we love is the hot water radiant heat system, that goes through all of the floors in our home. We almost never need to turn on the forced air heat because the radiant is so efficient. The 10 foot ceiling height he designed is especially nice in our basement, because the high ceilings and windows mask the fact that you are in a basement. Lot's of other forward thinking elements Jeff thought of really set our home apart from others in our neighborhood. We have been very happy with all of the architectural aspects of our home and would highly recommend Funke Architects!”
