Our client's dream is to age in place in this home. Designing a timeless kitchen was incredibly important. Instead of changing the layout, we added pantries to a wall that we created between the kitchen and the family room. As a result of adding the pantries, we were able to remove a lot of the upper cabinets. With many of the upper cabinets gone, we added a beautiful large arched window in front of the sink. The natural light that now enters the room is transformative. Because the hood is so visible from the family room, we wanted it to be quiet but impactful so that it did not scream from the family room. By using the same tile from the backsplash, there is still architectural interest, but it is not as loud as it could have been if we used a different material. We used inset cabinets for a sleek timeless look.
