My client wanted a more grown up space with room to work on projects and a spot for friends. For this project I sourced a combination of vintage, modern and repurposed pieces, combined with custom window treatments and bench cushion. Walls upholstered in pale blue wool satin and custom made silk and wool Tibetan rug create a peaceful refuge. The television is concealed in a custom designed Italian style cabinet with hydrolic lift. King sized four poster bed, designed by Michael Whaley, is made up with luxurious Italian linens. The Porch House located just west of Springfield, Missouri, presented Hufft Projects with a unique challenge. The clients desired a residence that referenced the traditional forms of farmhouses but also spoke to something distinctly modern. A hybrid building emerged and the Porch House greets visitors with its namesake – a large east and south facing ten foot cantilevering canopy that provides dramatic cover. The residence also commands a view of the expansive river valley to the south. L-shaped in plan, the house’s master suite is located in the western leg and is isolated away from other functions allowing privacy. The living room, dining room, and kitchen anchor the southern, more traditional wing of the house with its spacious vaulted ceilings. In this exterior Collonade antique terracotta bread-sticks were used for the vaulted ceilings. Installed in a running bond in strips of 1"1/2 wide x running length in a casual mix of yellow and red colors. The floor is also made with antique terracotta tiles 6'x 6" in red tones.
