teen bedroom

Transitioning a little girl's room to a tween or teen room is never easy....you want the room to grow with them but not be TOO adult. Without repainting the soft blush color of this former "baby" room, I updated the accessories, and added a few pieces that give the room a more sophisticated feel without losing the young, modern feel. The original bed was removed and the mattress and box spring sit on a platform for a clean, streamlined look. This serves two purposes; one, it helps de-clutter the small room by removing a large piece of furniture, and two, it provides the modern look requested by the young occupant. The bed was also placed along a wall for a daybed effect and to provide more floor space. Using black bedding is a good idea in this particular situation because the look can easily be changed seasonally by adding different colored pillows or sheets. Finally, I used a small heirloom trunk as a table, and a large Chagall print above the bed for additional color and interest. Updating the art in your child's room is a great way to update it, by the way. Let your child choose some artwork that appeals to their maturity or interests. A framed print of a classic painting is also something they will carry into adulthood as one of their first real "grownup" items!
