Parking Courtyard

The entrance to the home is arrived at through several levels. The driveway climbs a low hill bringing the visitor into the parking court and then the front lawn and garden is arrived at via these "gated" stairs. The width of this entry point is generous and the design of the stairs is repeated at the front door. This progression is called a "sequence of arrival" and marks elements of passage. The sequence becomes more intimate in scale the closer the visitor moves toward the destination, the front door. Although typically noticed unconciously, the sequence allows the journey a small richness of experience.
