The living rooms gets excellent natural light all day. The double glazed low-e glazing keeps the inside cool during summer while allowing maximum light in. The clients requested hard flooring throughout the house. Because it is a holiday home on the beach they wanted sand and water to be easily cleaned up and for sand not to be able to damage the floors. A hardened polished concrete floor was the solution. With the use of white cement the floor takes on the yellow from the sand giving it a very beachy feel. The other advantage with the high aggregate polished slab it is hides an large amount of dirt and sand which is beneficial when there are up to 16 people staying at the house over the Christmas period. In winter the heated slab provides underfoot comfort and a gentle head to the house. The clients did a superb job of buying all old industrial furniture and joinery to give the house a real casual feel while being very interesting with is sense of heritage.
