Gallery Kitchen

The owners of this 1960s residence, avid art collectors, grew weary of the kitchen and dining room. These rooms were distinctly separate spaces and felt somewhat small, confined and a bit distant. Moreover, the divided spaces limited how they could display and view their art collections. They wanted to remove the wall and bind the spaces together, while providing display space that would allow them and their guests to appreciate the artwork from a more generous viewshed. They also wanted to create a comfortable combined living/dining/cooking/entertaining space that reflects their appreciation for simple and thoughtful design. The design solution removes the shared wall, expanding the perceived space of both areas, while retaining a subtle division with custom cabinetry that is both part of the kitchen island and a display cabinet/screen wall. The owners’ collection of various ceramic objects can now be appreciated from both the kitchen side and the dining room side.
