Mural is from the Latin word “murus”—meaning wall. They are large scale paintings of trompe l’œil, landscapes, portraiture, still life or artistic design. A particularly distinguishing characteristic of mural painting is that the architectural elements of the given space are harmoniously incorporated into the picture. Murals can be based directly on sheetrock, Masonite board, canvas or wood.
